Big Hearts Giving to Little Hearts

The “Big Heart Society” is being formed to encourage donors to give $500.00 or more annually for a minimum of five (5) years.  Our Mother’s Home (OMH) depends on 50% of its revenue from generous donors. We are in need of a steady stream of donations that we can depend on to continue our mission to provide both physically and emotionally a nurturing home.

We provide a home for up to 8 mothers and babies who have the following needs:

• Nutritious Meals to include fresh fruits, vegetables, juices
• Formula, baby food
• Diapers
• Shampoo for mommy and baby, lotions and other personal needs
• Laundry soap, cleaning supplies, garbage bags
• Towels, sheets, blankets
• Transportation to school, doctors’ appointments and visits to family
• Books, school supplies
• Funding for Birthing, Breast Feeding and basic newborn classes.
• Funding for private counseling
• Computers
• Funding for circumcisions (for moms who desire)

Members of the “Big Hearts Society” would be partners with Our Mother’s Home allowing us to go forward providing a homelike environment where love, discipline, structure and safety are provided.

GIVING LEVELS OF SUPPORT

We at OMH understand that everyone’s giving ability is unique. We have created a few levels for your convenience, but any continued donations are welcome. Here are some examples of what your donation will help us with:

•  Foster with Love: $500.00 per year ($41.67/month) for five years

Provides 1 baby with 6 months’ worth of diapers.

•  Foster with Education: $1000.00 per year ($83.33/month) for 5 years

Provides one mother with childbirth, breast feeding, newborn care and tutoring classes.

• Foster with Food:  $1500.00* per year ($125.00/month) for 5 years

Provides one baby formula for 5 years.

• Foster with Guidance: $2500.00* per year ($208.00/month) for 5 years:

Provides one mom with monthly private counseling to heal from past traumas.

• Foster with Faith: $5000.00* per year ($416.00/month) for 5 years:

Provides money for medical needs not covered by insurances, computers, transportation, maintenance of the home, grant writing and other daily operational expenses.

This twofold story weaves between how I lost trust in my father and then later in my husband Joe.  “Allentown Joe” became known as the luckiest man in Pennsylvania when he learned he had the winning Lotto ticket, worth $20.8 million dollars, which was to expire in two days.  It would have been the largest jackpot ever to go unclaimed in U.S. Lottery history.  Instead of joy, my overwhelming emotion was fear knowing Joe previously worked through a serious gambling addiction.  With the winning came the good, the bad and the ugly.  My winning Lotto was learning to forgive the two most important men in my life and realizing that the path my life has taken was meant to be.

At this point in my life, it’s time to pay it forward and help the children. Therefore, 100% of the proceeds of my book will go to two charities in Southwest Florida for children. The evening will include a cocktail hour, dinner reception, dancing and live music hosted by the Cahlua and Cream Band. Guests will also have a chance to participate in a silent auction. Along with fine food dancing and prizes, two special guest speakers will share their personal experiences growing up in foster care:   Valerie Edwards of FGCU’s Gulf Coast Live talk show, host and journalist and New York Time’s best-selling author, Ashley Rhodes-Courter.

“We are very excited to have Valerie and Ashley at this year’s gala,” says Dr. Teresa Sievers, president of Our Mother’s Home board of directors. “When people hear, firsthand, the shortcomings of traditional foster care, they quickly gain insight to our mission at Our Mother’s Home and understand how our program goes beyond simply providing a home. These girls need to be loved, and more importantly, learn how to trust others and love themselves and their babies.”

For over 10 years, Our Mother’s has committed itself to the future of foster girls with babies. Our Mother’s Home believes separating babies from mothers is not the answer. Instead, Our Mother’s Home provides mothers and children physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual support. Our Mother’s Home is a home where a young mother and her child are safe from sexual abuse, physical beatings and verbal abuse. The girls are taught through mentoring that love is the key to building a healthy relationship with their baby. As they heal from past pains and disappointments, they are also provided with life and parenting skills for independent living, enabling these moms and their babies to become life-long families and self-sufficient members of society.

“The fact that these girls chose life for their babies warrants support to this fund- raising gala,” says Karen Mason, MSW, executive director of Our Mother’s Home.

At this year’s gala, Our Mother’s Home has provided a unique way for business owners to promote their business with the “Business Basket Contest.” By donating a basket for the silent auction, business owners can promote their businesses in the Our Mother’s Home program and website for an entire year.

In addition, author of the book “Andrea Marcell,” Andrea M. Jones, will be donating 100% of the proceeds of her book to “Our Mother’s Home” and “Voices for Kids.”  Please help her pay it forward and help the children.
